"The mid-80's vision of the future. The every-man American's access to decadence. Misunderstood in its time: "An over engineered failure". They didn't get it... I remember the first time I hit 110mph in my recently deceased Silver 1988 Pontiac Fiero. The windows down, my worn out Thriller cassette blasting, testing the decades old speakers: Nothing but the open road and black of night ahead of me. I didn't care that the suspension could give out at any moment, hurdling me towards certain death. I knew that my relationship with her was real, and I could trust her to get me where I was going." - Josh Ascalon
Shift Age is the debut album from producer and electronic musician Josh Ascalon, aka The Great Void. For the recording of Shift Age, Josh set specific creative parameters which banned the use of software-synths, plug-ins, and digital sequencing. Forsaking modern studio conveniences for a more hands-on and intensively crafted approach. Recording, producing and mixing the record himself, the album features contributions from like-minded musicians such as Alan Palomo (Neon Indian), Noel Heroux (Hooray for Earth), George Lewis Jr. (Twin Shadow) Morgan Whirledge (Chrome Canyon) and Joe Stickney (Bear in Heaven, Autre Ne Veut).
